What Sets Our Mulch Apart: Quality, Cleanliness, and Local Transparency

When you’re buying mulch for your home or commercial landscape, you're not just buying ground-up wood—you’re investing in the health of your garden, the safety of your property, and the integrity of your soil. That’s why at Raney Tree Care, we go far beyond the basics to provide safe, high-quality, locally sourced mulch for Bettendorf, Davenport, and the entire Quad Cities area.

Sourced Locally – Processed On-Site

Unlike suppliers who truck in mulch from unknown sources or rely heavily on recycled pallets and inconsistent materials, we source all of our mulch from monitored local hardwood drop-offs. Our team carefully screens every load of incoming wood at our Moline, IL facility. We regularly turn away loads containing trash, rocks, and other contaminants.

This allows us to maintain complete control over the quality of our mulch from start to finish.

In-House Chipping & Grinding

We don’t outsource our mulch processing—we do everything in-house. Our grinding and chipping process naturally eliminates most pests, including termites, thanks to the high-friction and high-heat generation during the breakdown of the hardwood material.

This stage is critical because it ensures that any insects originally in the wood are destroyed through mechanical and heat disruption, long before the mulch reaches your garden.

Thermal Sanitation Through Composting

Once processed, our mulch is stored in large piles at our facility, where a natural aging and composting process begins. These piles reach extremely high internal temperatures, hot enough to destroy remaining pathogens or insects—including termites.

This “seasoning” process not only ensures the mulch is safe and clean, but also enhances its color, texture, and soil-conditioning properties. We turn these piles regularly to maintain even temperatures and proper aeration.

Why Bagged Mulch and Unknown Sources Are Risky

Mulch that’s been sitting in bags for months, or mulch that isn’t aged or processed properly, poses risks of mold growth and unknown pest contamination. Bagged mulch is often sealed in plastic, creating a breeding ground for mold. Additionally, without transparency into where and how the mulch was produced, you can’t be sure what you're putting into your landscape.

Your Peace of Mind Matters

Our customers trust us not just for the quality and performance of our mulch—but also because we’re honest about our process. We care deeply about our local community, our reputation, and the integrity of the products we provide.

If you’ve heard otherwise, we encourage you to visit our facility, ask questions, and see for yourself. Our team stands by the safety and quality of every scoop of mulch we sell.
